What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, finding out what their goals are, 2nd, determining their current skill level and 3rd, encouraging them to enjoy music.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Master's degree in music, with emphasis on theory, keyboard & education. Over 25 years of experience.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Tuition is $60 per hour, i.e. 30 minute lesson, $30; 45 minute lesson, $45; 60 minute lesson, $60.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching while I was in college and have never stopped.
What types of students have you worked with?
Very young children (ages 3 & up), elementary children, high school and adults. Smart ones, special needs, interested in classical, interested in jazz.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Students performing at local jazz club with band.
Students performing in 10 piano concerts in Sacramento and in Japan.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher that has a good sense of humor and that you can develop a good emotional connection with.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Questions that concern the students desire to commit themselves to a very disciplined subject.
