I have had a deep passions for music my whole life. I have been playiung guitar for 15 years and piano for 9 years. I enjoy playing many different styles including Rock, Jazz, Blues, Metal, Rap/ Hip-Hop, and some Folk. I have a Bachelor of Music degree from San Diego State University specializing in Jazz Performance. I've won the certificate in outstanding musicianship from the East Bay Jazz Music Festival twice, for guitar when I was 19 and then for piano when I was 25. I have played in a variety of groups, mostly playing Rock and Jazz. I also sing and write my own music as well.
In my lessons I teach many different things, not just how to play songs, but also music theory so my students can understand the music that they are playing. This is what gives musicians insight about how music is crafted and enables them to improvise solos. I also teach arranging. This enables students to take a song or a basic lead sheet and build an original arrangment through understanding melodic and harmonic principles and how to combine them. Another crucial element I focus on is ear training. This is not just understanding scales and chords by site, but developing the ability to identify chords and scales by ear. I believe this is one of the most important skills a musician must learn. This gives them the ability to play an idea they have in their head as easily as speaking. I also help students who are interested in song writing by helping them understand common forms in the music style they are pursuing. And also give them insight about when to break away from the form when the song calls for it.
I cater to all ages and all skill levels. I'm happy to come to you or you are welcome to come to me. I'm located in Livermore. I also have extra instruments and equipment I can provide during lessons if needed.
I love music and getting to work with people who are exited to learn and play music is the most rewarding experience for me.

For the first meeting I usually like to have an assessment meeting. Usually just 30 minutes to assess what you may know already (if you're a total beginner that's completely okay). I also like to ask what kind of music you are interested in learning, who your favorite artists are, and what your learning goals are. At that point I'll recommend lessons lengths and frequency.
