About
I welcome you to my piano studio and look forward to sharing my love of music with you! As your piano instructor my goal is to truly instill a deep love of music into every one of my students. As we learn the fundamentals of note reading, correct piano technique and hand-positioning, my personal goal is to communicate the wonder of "enjoying" this skill rather than rigidly "performing" correctly. Each student will not be simply taking piano lessons, rather they will be learning to appreciate and experience the music, as well as mastering necessary skills. In my experience, this leads most students to value music for life!
Over 10 + years experience teaching piano! I first began teaching piano when I was 18, to my neighborhood children where I grew up in Newmarket, England. Though still studying music myself, the need was there and I couldn't resist sharing my knowledge and love of music. Over the next few years, I studied through The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (London), completed my musical training and began teaching piano to the military children on Lakenheath Air Force Base, Suffolk, England. After moving to Bellevue, Nebraska in 2015, I opened my own studio for the first time. Besides running my studio I taught piano at Cornerstone Christian School and Offutt AFB Youth Programs. Since recently relocating to Long Beach, I'm building my studio once again from the ground up. I look forward to bringing a love of music into the lives of my students here and all those I'm blessed to influence.

WHAT IS THE MONTHLY COST OF PIANO LESSONS?
FOR 30 MINUTE LESSONS
The cost is $100 per calendar month, and is to be paid in full by the first lesson of each month. Most months each student will receive 4 (30 minute) lessons; if the month happens to have a fifth week, you will receive that “bonus” lesson free of charge. However, should the month contain only 3 weeks of lessons (very rarely) the $100 monthly cost of lessons remains the same.
FOR 60 MINUTE LESSONS
The cost is $200 per calendar month, and is to be paid in full by the first lesson of each month. Most months each student will receive 4 (60 minute) lessons; if the month happens to have a fifth week, you will receive that “bonus” lesson free of charge. What types of students have you worked with?
Working in a military environment, and growing up in the UK has richly influenced my personality and teaching style. I've worked with students from many diverse cultural backgrounds, and nationalities, and my purpose in teaching is to Creating a Safe Educational Environment - cultivating settings that are conducive to learning and inclusive of every student’s unique family/background, culture and capability
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I've recently begun working with my youth group at church on our own cover of Andra Day's Rise Up for a musical competition later this month. It's been a very inspiring experience already. Each young person has so much to offer and I look forward to each step of the process - from first rehearsal to our final performance - This is what fills me with energy! Watching the development, and then achieving something everyone is proud of!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be open to learning and once you've found the right fit with your teacher, don't hold back.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
It's about feeling safe and comfortable within a teacher - student environment. Once you feel you can trust your teacher as a person, the rest will simply come naturally. A great teacher will be looking to answer questions you haven't even asked yet.
