About

My teaching approach:

I will provide highly individualized attention to each studentï¿1⁄2s needs and aspirations, while maintaining a jovial and casual learning environment. Lesson material is generally songs/pieces that the student wishes to learn, with concurrent instruction in relevant theory and performance techniques. A great deal of emphasis is placed on enjoyment of the learning process and establishing a thorough foundation in all educational aspects of repertoire at hand. Learning guitar and the science of music can be challenging, but also vastly more rewarding. Together, we can do it! Gear: Ibanez, Laney

My influences are:

Richie Kotzen, George Lynch, Tony Macalpine, Vinnie Moore, Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen, Eddie Van Halen, Marty Friedman, Gary Moore, Dino Cazares, Devin Townsend, James Hetfield, Chris Poland, David Russell, Bridget Mermikides, Per-Olov Kindgren, Eric Johnson, Allan Holdsworth, Guthrie Govan. Believe it or not, there are many more!

My guitar lessons take place in:

The teacher's studio or the student's home

Guitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas:

At home lessons in Modesto and local area. I also teach at my studio at Legend Music in Manteca!

Guitar Techniques:

Guidance In Equipment Selection, Scales and Exercises, Music Theory, Reading Music, Jamming Skills, Improvisation, Performance, Fingerstyle, Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

Firstly, I will personally introduce myself to the student and I will ask about themselves. I might ask about what sort of music they are into or bands/artists they like. I will ask the student to play for me anything they like, in so that I might gauge their current aptitudes and skill level. But also so that they know that I am dedicated to helping all of my students, regardless of current skill or age, to getting to where they want to go!

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

I inquire about the student's thoughts on the previous weeks practice and evaluate. Then, we will engage in further study of the subject repertoire. This involves repetition and a focus on building necessary muscle memory. Towards the end of the lesson, we will then participate in any theoretical analysis or technical focus I would deem essential or beneficial. We will then end the lesson, always taking pride in our hard work for that day!

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

An understanding of the fun of learning and making efforts inherent in guitar practice. A passion for music/guitar also a great asset. Also, an appreciation of the fact that practicing once a week for 30 minutes does not constitute good practice habits. Rather, that 30 minutes every day is most effective, and the most fun! Understand that, and you will fly! (Music-wise)
