About
I am a full time guitar instructor. I love working with young students and their families to see how much they grow musically. I really emphasize students working together in groups and performances.
I really enjoy seeing how students grow musically and personally. It is very rewarding to help students break down problems and overcome road blocks. It is great also to see students begin to have some musically independence and develop their own musical voice.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
In the first few lessons, we get to know each other and discuss what the student wants to accomplish in music and lessons. We tend to work toward beign able to play a complete song by memory very well. Technique and basic setup are prioritized.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Bachelor of Music from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University
Master of Music from USC (the University of Southern California)
Suzuki Book 1-5 teacher training
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$50 for 30 minute lesson
$70 for 45 minute lesson
$85 for 60 minute lesson
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching because I could play and students simply started to ask for lessons. I really dove into teaching when I saw the rewards I saw from my students accomplishing so much and their immersion in the world of music.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with beginning to advanced students of all ages. I teach indiviual lessons and in ensembles and group classes.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We had two mini-guitar festivals in the fall of 2021. In these events, students perform for each other in supportive performance workshops and play in ensembles. They also do a group song: Amazing Grace at the first on and Lion Sleeps Tonight at the second. In these group songs, they all play the chords, sing the melody, play the melody and improvise. The whole event ends with a big recital full of solo pieces, small ensembles and a big group performance.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Stick with it! you are learning a musical language that will be with you for life. It takes a while for playing to become second nature. Once you have it, the world of music is open to you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Be sure to ask about scheduling that will fit both the student and the teacher's time. Ask what kind of music will be studied in lessons. Ask about the practice commitment expected.
