Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
30 minute lessons, once a week is what we usually recommend. Students are expected to practice at home what they learn in class everyday. Depending upon the age of the student, 30 minutes of daily practice is minimum requirement to see real results in a reasonable amount of time. The more you put into practice time, the more you get out of your lesson.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Each teacher has extensive higher level music education and practical experience in performing, and teaching. See teacher profiles on our website for more details.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
As contracted teachers at BCM, we set our own prices. But, we are all pretty close to $35 per 30 minute lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
We all have a deep love of music! And teaching is an art form in itself that we are passionate about.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have worked with all ages ranging from 4 years to adult. We specialize in beginners, but can certainly help musicians who need to break through a plateau.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We hold annual recitals to showcase our students efforts. Parents, extended family, friends, and students alike describe their experience with enthusiasm!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Every teacher brings a different perspective to teaching their instrument, but the best musicians don't necessarily make the best teachers. Look for a teacher who can clearly describe and break down concepts for students to learn in a kind and gentle manner, rather than one who can thrill you with a show of skill.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Can you commit to daily practice or help your child to do so? Can you commit to a consistent weekly lesson time, reasonably unhindered from rotating shift schedules and other extra curricular activities? Do you value the education you will receive over monetary investment necessary to see real results? Can you trust the teacher's judgment in what will work best for your child? Are you able to manage driving to the studio through busy traffic to and from the studio? Even students who live only 15 minutes away will discover that total weekly time required to drive, sit and wait for the lesson to finish, and driving back takes at least an hour or more.
