About this pro

Hello! My name is Vera Ellen. I am 24 years old and am currently play guitar and sing in Girl Friday as well composing/playing solo. I moved from New Zealand to Los Angeles to pursue music and have been playing guitar since I was 8 years old.

It's important to me that my students feel comfortable, relaxed and happy. I arrange what I teach based on your music taste and what you want to learn and play as a guitarist.

If song writing is of interest to you I will help you compose/give you tools to compose your own stuff. And If you like I can help you record a demo to start getting your stuff out there.

Music means the whole world to me and It's my joy to share whatever I can with you. I am calm, patient and will always offer a cup of tea :-)

Watching students develop their own abilities and grow in confidence. Helping others discover their own talents and potential.

Vera is an exceptional guitar player and a very kind, intelligent, gifted teacher. I would highly recommend her to any beginner students. She is super accommodating and will teach you the songs and style you want to learn.

Vera was very patient and friendly and made the experience very fun and unintimidating. She was also very well prepared and gave a lot of usefeul feedback. Great teacher!

Vera is the best music teacher I have ever had ever, and I’ve tried a lot of different instruments on and off my whole life (piano, viola, guitar, voice). She is so kind, knowledgeable, and patient, while also constantly pushing me to be better. Each lesson feels like a challenge, and the pace is perfectly catered to my ability. She is constantly prepared and brings songs I know (I frequently suggest songs) and songs she thinks I will like that will be a challenge/appropriate for my skill level. My lessons also include an introduction to songwriting and musical theory! The connections Vera makes between music theory and the instrument are the only way music theory has ever made sense to me, and the skills I learn are immediately and clearly relevant to songwriting/performing on a stage/soloing. She is SUPER kind, open, and helpful for my songwriting. I feel so supported and encouraged by her and SO impressed with her work and her input on my songs. I feel so lucky to be able to take lessons from her and feel like I have improved SO much faster than I would have without lessons or with another teacher. Super flexible with times and scheduling as well! Finally, it’s just been so significant for me as a queer woman/non-binary person to take guitar lessons from someone who’s not a man! It’s been hugely empowering and significant for me! Vera is excellent and SO wonderful. Cannot praise her enough! TAKE HER LESSONS!!!

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

My first step is to really get to know what the student wants from these lessons, what their music taste is and what kind of music they would like to learn. If the student is unsure that's completely fine - I am more then happy to get you started. From their I start to formulate lesson plans. I ensure each lesson includes a variety of technique to keep it fun and cover all bases.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I've been a performing/working musician since I was 16 years old. I believe my real life experiance helps to inform my teaching giving students techniques that they can apply to playing in a band or even their own music.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

I like to start my lessons at $25.
