JOYFUL MUSIC & Arts is a lively music school in Rolling Hills Estates, conveniently located across the street from the Palos Verdes Central Library. At Joyful Music & Arts, we teach music in a very motivational way. Our focus is to communicate the love for music, through every instrument we teach, with excellence and fun. What is your typical process for working with a new student?

After evaluation and depending on the level of the student, we craft a specific curriculum for him/her . Our teaching is highly performance oriented, we have regular concerts and performances where the students can present their developing skills. Our teaching is joyful and personal.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Apart from BA's or masters in music, every teacher at JOMA is an active musician, either in Classical orchestras or Jazz, Salsa or worship bands

Individual lessons:

$40.00 per 1/2 hour 

$70.00 per 1 hour

Group lessons: most are $25.00 per group lesson

How did you get started teaching?

Mr. Makinto started his first music school in Ivory Coast/West Africa, taught music in various countries and started Joyful Music & Arts in Rolling Hills in 2011

All ages, all styles, all motivations

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

Joyful Music & Arts 10 Anniversary Student Concert in May 2017, with 70 students performing in various ensembles and constellations. We had Rockbands, Jazzbands, Gospelgroups, a classical acoustic ensemble, Piano and Flute duets and many families perfoming together. It was an awesome evening of talent and expressed joy around music!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Does he/she love music & teaching? Does she/he still perform?

Look for an environment that is motivating you to continue progressing in your craft.
