About

I love what I do! I take pride in engaging students and bringing out the best in them. That is unique for each individual.

I help students learn how to interact with music while focusing on the part of music education that has been scientifically proven to be most beneficial!

Relationships.

The music education process is a journey. As a teacher, through that journey, I strive to build a student-teacher rapport that ensures trust and accountability. Over time, this is tremendously satisfying for both myself and my students, and it also ensures the sucess of a student.

I also thoroughly enjoy the relationships that ensue with family. The younger the student, the more important it is to have parental involvement for success.

I enjoy being a positive role model for my students and encouraging them to learn not just music, but the character qualities that always come form the musical eduation journey: pride in achieving goals, self-discipline, and understanding oneself.

    Frequently asked questions

It's so important for me to be engaging for my students. Whether the student embarking on this musical journey is a 5 year old who is new to reading, or a teeneager who wants to play in a band, or an adult who wants to start something new, my goal is to create a learning plan that is specific to them.

It is critical to discuss and discover things like:

    -Goals

    -Learning style

-For younger students, the level of support at home from parents

-If there is current involvement in music or was in the past

    -Understanding expectations to progress

Knowing as much as I can from the start will help me shape a plan that is suited for the individual student. I love helping my students learn, reach goals, and take pride in their progress!

I have over 20 years of professional teaching experience. I have owned my own studios in Chicago, LA, and am currently in the Sacramento area (Roseville).

My experience spans working with students in a private setting, as well as group classes and ensembles. I have also helped to develop music programs for local public schools, develop curriculum, and offer pedagogical training and support for local music teachers.

    Over the years I've taught:

    -Private lessons

    -Choral ensembles

    -Orchestral ensembles

-Worship band program (both youth and adult)

-Pop/Rock band program (both youth and adult)

-Music theory classes (high school and elementary)

    -General music/music exploration classes

    My in-studio tuition is $134/month.

When I was a little girl, I dreamed of being a teacher one day. I would even line up my stuffed animals like students and hand out papers to them!

In one of his poems, Robert Frost says:

"My object in living is to unite

    My avocation and my vocation

As my two eyes make one in sight."

To do something for work that you find great pleasure and personal satisfaction is a true fortune. Teaching is something that has always come naturally to me and it was apparent I was meant to do just that!

I have taught thousands of students in my lifetime! I've worked with students of all ages from age 5 to retired adults. I have also worked with students with ADD, ADHD, apraxia, and ASD.

Everyone is capable of learning and growing, if only they are committed to it! And I am so fortunate to be a part of their journeys!

My studio has a youth rock band program. What is unique about it is that we teach students they are not too young to make this world a better place! They put together a concert set and at the end of their season, they put on a full rock concert where all proceeds go to a charity they choose. We take time to get to know the charity and the work they do. If it's local, we take the youth and volunteer on-site.

The last show was so fantastic that it left me in awe. I just loved seeing them play their hearts out. They literally left everyone on the stage. All their energy and focus and even sweat (ha!) It was truly a rush of so many good things!

I would ask them what kind of material they use to teach. That often unveils a level of organization, planning, and solid pedagogical process.

I love teaching many genres of music. I do not push one style over another. (In the beginning much of the basics are the same regardless of genre preferences.) Sampling various genres is a wonderful way to explore music and how similar styles are to each other when you study their infrastructure.

Are you willing to commit to daily practice to learn?

Learning music is creative and intellectual, but also physical. You cannot train to play music wihtout the daily practice. It is very much like an athletic pursuit, but you are working with different (and usually smaller) muscles. Nonetheless, the commitment to building the physical aspect is imporant. And truly rewarding!
