I love getting folks excited about playing guitar! I've been playing for over 40 years, professionally for 14 years and teaching in the Monterey area for 20 years. My method involves teaching my students their favorite songs and in the process learning chords, strumming and picking techniques and how to interact with other players. I also record demos for songwriters.

Chris is an excellent teacher. Brings just the right amount of challenge to each lesson, enough to help you learn but not too much that you get lost or disheartened. He has a flexible style, is patient and generous with his time and input. His lessons make me want to practice and improve for the next one.

Both my 6 year old son and I have taken music lessons from Chris! He has a great teaching style. He gets you playing fun songs right away matched to your ability and introduces you to new notes/chords/techniques with each lesson. He is very very patient (with kids and adults!) and is always willing to answer your questions and even tailor the lesson to your preference (ie if there is something particular youd like to go back and work on, or a specific song you want to learn, he is happy to oblige). Chris also takes the time to teach you about other aspects of your instrument rather than just how to play it - like how to change the guitar strings! Chris really has a passion for music and loves sharing it with others which makes him an awesome teacher. He wants to see you succeed and always has a positive and uplifting attitude. If you take lessons from Chris you wont be disappointed!

Mr. Chris is very patient with his students . He makes sure not to overwhelm the students and makes guitar lessons fun. I like that he chooses songs that catch the students interest. Makes learning fun for them. Both of my daughters have taken lessons with him. My 8 year is currently taking guitar lessons with Mr. Chris

I really enjoy working with Chris. He was very responsive to my needs and helped my improve my technique, both in my left hand teaching me many new chords In multiple positions, as well as finger picking, strumming and flat picking with my right hand. His teaching focuses on getting you to play the music you want to play. I strongly recommend him. He is a great teacher.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I assess the student's level and get a feel for what kind of music gets them excited enough to want to practice. Practice will be the "Stairway" to success.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have been playing in front of audiences for over 40 years. Teaching guitar for 20.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My standard rate is $30 per half hour session. $60 for one hour leassons.

How did you get started teaching?

I began teaching through my worship team at my church in Pacific Grove, CA.

What types of students have you worked with?

I've taught students from 5 years old to 75 years old. I've taught several Ukulele classes for the Monterey Public Library.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I play guitar on the worship team at my church-Peninsula Christian Center in Pacific Grove. I am lead guitar player, songwriter and singer for Wishes were Fishes (27 years) and lead guitarist and singer for Dakota Crossing in Fresno, CA. I perform in a duo "Clare and Chris" at the Pacific Grove Everyone's Harvest Farmer's Market every Monday for the last 12 years.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Have songs in mind that you want to impress your friends with. Be ready to practice at home in between lessons.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
