My son Kevin started taking guitar lessons when he was 6, and Rob has been his teacher for 10 years now. Rob is an amazing teacher who has been great with Kevin both as a young child and as a teenager. Rob is both patient and kind, and he tailors his instruction to fit the interests of the student. My son was initially interested in rock music, but eventually shifted to jazz. Rob was with him every step of the way as an incredibly knowledgeable instructor. Rob has a Master’s Degree from CalArts where he was well known among the professors and students as an amazing guitarist, so if you want a teacher who really knows their stuff - including jazz theory and improvisation - you won’t do better than Rob. Or if you’re just looking for a kind and patient teacher to teach you or your child how to play the latest songs, you’ll also be happy. My son has put a lot of work into learning guitar, and today when I hear him play I can hardly believe how good he has become. Rob deserves a lot of the credit. Thanks Rob!!!

Rob is an awesome guitar teacher and an awesome person! In the time I studied with him, he completely elevated my playing to another level! Our lessons always flowed easily and efficiently because Rob is very clear and articulate when explaining material. Also the material he gave me was always catered to my musical interest which made it really fun learning new and familiar songs. I would 100% recommend taking lessons with him.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Please contact me to discuss your musical goals and possible lesson times. I'm happy to answer any questions!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

M.F.A. Jazz Guitar Performance - California Institute of the Arts.

B.M. Jazz Studies - San Diego State University.

In addition to my personal teaching business, I'm also a faculty member at US Music Lessons, in Rancho Bernardo, CA.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

TRIAL lessons are $20 for a half-hour

IN-HOME lessons are $30 for a half-hour OR $50 for one hour.

ONLINE lessons are $35 for 45 minutes.

How did you get started teaching?

I began teaching professionally while earning my B.M. from San Diego State University. I continued teaching during my time at California Institute of the Arts and I've been making a living as a music instructor ever since (15+ years).

What types of students have you worked with?

All ages, all levels, all styles.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I love creating music in small group jazz settings and also working with singers/rappers/producers/beat-makers in the studio. Aside from teaching, those are the two processes I’m involved in the most these days.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Find the best fit for your situation. Ask about recommendations from people in your community with experience giving or receiving lessons from professional teachers.
