My teaching approach:

I teach a wide range of genres and styles of play, the most important part of my lessons is building up essential skills for any student to become a proficient (or more advanced) player, all while making it as fun as possible, because what it all comes down to is playing and writing to have a good time.

My influences are:

The Clash are most likely the strongest influence on my playing simply because of their wide range of styles and sounds. Beyond that a lot of Punk, Ska, and Alternative bands with exceptional songwriting. The bands I tend to gravitate towards the most are those with the strongest lyrics, while not sacrificing musicianship.

Guitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas:

Students' homes in Encinitas, Solana Beach, Carlsbad, San Marcos, Leucadia, and Rancho Santa Fe.

Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Open tuning, Fingerstyle, Performance, Improvisation, Jamming Skills, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing, Recording and Production, Guidance In Equipment Selection

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

By testing the student's rhythm, and ability to change chord shapes in time. If the player is intermediate or more advanced I'd check their ability to improvise to the key of a song and what they know about chord progressions and scales, and their affects (theory).

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

It'd start with a recap of what the student has learned and been listening to, then a quick test of the ability to do exercises we've gone over to chart improvement. If the student had any special request of a song they'd like to work on we'd go over that next, and then end with deciding the next step for the student to improve in ways that will help improve their style best, and what to practice at home, outside of lessons.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

One that is willing and motivated to learn! There's not much more I can ask for beyond a good attitude and interest in music.
