Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Before I start the lesson, I need to get to know the student and his/her goals. Is there a specific aim? Do they want to study professionally or just for fun? Do they want to master a specific skill like sight-reading, improvisation or fast technique? Depending on the answers, I pick certain tactics and materials I'll use with that specific student. I also check the student's abilities (pitch, sense of rhythm, etc.) After this short test, I create a unique program that fits each student individually.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A classical music concert at the Colburn Conservatory. New City Ballet Principal Dancers joined Colburn Conservatory musicians with music by Arvo Part.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would recommend you to ask the teacher to play for you before the lesson starts.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Music like any other activity takes time and perseverance. Make sure you or your child has time to practice. Also, it is very beneficial to have an upright or grand piano and not simply a keyboard to practice on.
