About

My teaching approach:

I cater lessons to students individually all the while making sure important skill sets are learned (sight reading, scales, etc.) in a fun and positive environment. I received my BA in music from Cal State University Northridge in 2013 and was part of the nationally acclaimed CSUN Jazz A band during my time there. Now I play professionally around Los Angeles and run an 18 piece jazz orchestra of my own. I've done everything from short films to TV spots to video game recordings. Teaching is just another way for me to share my passion with others.

My influences are:

I listen to a variety of musical styles, but my main guitar influences are: Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall, Jerry Reed, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Angus Young, BB King.

My guitar lessons take place in:

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

I'll usually start by introducing myself and asking the student if they have ever played before. If not, there's my answer right there on where to start. If yes, then I'll see if they know certain chords, scales, if they can read and then based on what I see I'll find a starting point for the students lesson.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

A typical lesson would go like this: I'll give a handout with either chord changes or a melody on it. We'll work on that, learning the excerpt and building vocabulary of chords and scales while working on reading skills. That will then become "homework" for next time and then I would review with the student something from last week that may be proving difficult. After this, we'd work on a longer term goal like playing a solo by an artist or something more difficult of that sort.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

My ideal guitar student is simply a student that has a willingness to learn and is open to new things they may not have heard before. My ideal student would also practice at least 30 minutes per day.
