About
Singing is a sacred, beautiful way to express ourselves! I love vocal coaching and offer private vocal & songwriting lessons, as well as workshops & in-studio vocal producing.
I am a full-time performing & session vocalist, and songwriter. I was featured on season 10 of American Idol and music has been my career since I was a kid. I started out doing musical theatre in NYC, originating the role of Anna in Spring Awakening at Lincoln Center. For more info, check out DevynRush.com.
I am also a certified yoga instructor. I love to teach yoga and also incorporate stretches & body awareness during voice lessons.
We all have a voice inside of us, and we are all dynamic & multi-dimensional! When I coach you, my aim is to bring out what's already inside of you by helping you build a strong foundation and understand placement.
I believe in making lessons affordable & accessible. My studio is located in Los Angeles. I also offer lessons via Skype.
Whatever genre, or genres, you feel called to sing, I want to help you effortlessly express yourself!

I love seeing my students shine, which is such an easy thing to see because I love to set them up for success. We'll play to your strengths and passions, and everything else falls into place. I love being on a team with my students and acting as their coach to cheer them on and push them to places they might not have known they could go to!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I believe that vocal technique is compromised of 2 foundations: Breath & Placement. For our first lesson, we'll check out your pitch and range. Once I get to know your voice a little bit, we'll incorporate proper breathing technique and have fun exploring placement together. And we'll ALWAYS sing a song. It's important to me that you leave each lesson feeling better and more accomplished than you did before you walked in. We will always talk about YOU and your goals!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My mom is a voice teacher in the Philadelphia area, so I started singing as soon as I could talk. I started out in musical theatre, which has helped me maintain proper vocal technique and health. I've explored & experimented with a mutitude of genres, so whatever it is that you love, I'm up for it! Specialties include: Musical Theatre, Pop, Jazz, Soul.
I am also a certified yoga instructor (200-Hour YogaWorks Teacher Training 2011) and love to teach yoga as well as incorporate it in my voice lessons.

How did you get started teaching?
My mom is a voice teacher in Philadelphia. For years, I've seen how fulfilling it is for her and how she has been able to help build her students' confidence and enhance their lives. I wanna be just like her :) I consider myself a Teacher to those who are just beginning to explore their voices, and a Coach to those who have vocal experience.
What types of students have you worked with?
My students range from Beginner (like, first time opening their mouths to sing!) all the way to seasoned and on Broadway.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My most favorite events of late have to do with the confidence I see manifesting in my students. I like to come from a mindset of playing to strengths. I'm big on "Name 3 things you loved about that and 1 thing you'd like to take a look at to improve." There is never any judgment in my lessons. We learn from a place of love and curiosity. I love when lessons are conversational and exploratory. After all, this is for YOU. And I am so happy to be on your journey with you :)
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I think it's very important to find someone who has *a heart of a teacher* There are a lot of people who sing professionally but might not actually know how to teach/coach.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think about what you're looking for. What's making you want to sing - Do you want to do it professionally? Perhaps you already are a professional vocalist and want to find a coach to help you expand and keep up your chops? Maybe you are simply looking for a fun way to express yourself? All of the above are welcome with me!
