How did you get started teaching?
I have always loved martial arts, and began teaching friends. I was told often that I was a really good teacher and that I should consider teaching professionally. So I did, and loved it, and the rest is history.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages, all body types, and all walks of life. I have trained hundreds of people.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of my favorite memories related to teaching is when one of my students won his first championship. It was a beautiful cullmination of hard work, and dedication. The joy in his eyes was priceless, and it made my career choice feel even more meant to be.
Another is a story a student shared about being attacked at a gass station during an attempted robbery. He was able to resolve the situation with a 3 punch combination.
And lastly I had a student start with training 5 days a week with me. And in a period of 3 months dropped from 200lbs to 135lbs.
Weather its competition, self defence, or fitness, I really love my job!!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would suggest finding someone who has expierience. Who has credentials to back their being an instructor. Also some one who has additional knowlege as far as diet, health, and physical saftey. Unfortunatley there are a lot of people in my field who falsify their background to look better on paper.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
First I would say assesing their own needs and goals. Once the objectives are set, finding the correct questions to achieve set goals. Over all the correct teacher for said student will help them understant what questions should even be asked.
