I work with music students students including children, teenagers, and adults. I teach voice, piano, and beginning acoustic guitar. My background also includes over 30 years of music teaching experience in both public and private schools. My voice preparation includes studying with Dr. L. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I interview the student regarding his/her experience, interests, and musical goals. Also, I encourage any questions they would like to ask me. I suggest sharing some music with me so I can begin to get an idea of the student's skill level.
All these beginning steps are important, but I also love to just share conversation and learn what is unique about each person.
If the person is a singer I also like to warm up the voice and listen for range, pitch, vocal quality, and basic understanding of concepts.
My great joy is being a part of each person's musical growth.
