My teaching approach:

I balance between reading music,technique, improv, and helping students play their favorite guitar style. I supplement guitar books with personal worksheets.

My influences are:

The late great Bobby Montoya was a major local influence on my technique. Jeff Beck, Hendrix, Clapton, Bolin, Blackmore, Page, Shawn Lane, Uli Roth, Gibbons, Atkins, Les Paul, Lifeson, Morse.,.... I could go on for days. Ha!

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

Teach proper technique. Picking, guitar position, left hand placement. The students use a method book and other materials that I generate. I assess by their progress on last week's lesson.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

Warm ups to start a lesson, review of the last lesson is next. I add technique assessment, along with reading of pitch and rhythm. Lessons next branch out between pick and finger picking styles. Lesson usually end with a review and a look at next weeks music.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

A student must put in the time and effort in order to improve. They should strive to own a decent guitar. A bad guitar can hurt a student's progress. There is no substitute for practice. The most important cost of learning guitar is time. You must invest your time to improve.
