The Dojo of Exceptinal Wellness, Inc. (DEW) offers karate-do, kobudo and self-defense training for individuals and groups.
We provide Matsubayashi Shorin-ryu instruction based on Eihachi Ota Hanshi’s training and guidance.
Self-defense techniques are thus and elsewhere derived. In coordination with associated dojos in Miami and throughout the state of Florida and beyond, seminars and other events take place year round.
Santander sensei began his martial arts training in Gosoku-ryu traditional Shotokan Japanese karate, under Soke Tak Kubota and the instrucitons of Karam and Lante senseis with IKA in Venezuela, during the 1980’s. Due to relocation in the early 90’s, sensei Santander had opportunity to train in Aikido, during his years in the Netherlands Antilles, under sensei Frank Wong and later under sensei WeeWow Dumlao at the Miami Aikikai.
Sensei Francisco pursues Shorin-ryu with passion, enthusiasm and curiosity. His training in Okinawan karate-do started in the 90’s until his Shodan in the Shobayashi branch, developing his techniques and skills further in the Matsubayashi branch of this Okinawan art.
Santander sensei holds the rank of Godan (5o black belt) in Matsubayashi Shorin-ryu karate-do and Okinawan kobudo. He is an avid traveler.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold the rank of 5th degree black belt in Okinawan Matsubayashi-ryu traditional Karate and Kobudo, training under Hanshi Eihachi Ota, 10th degree black belt in Okinawan Matsubayashi-ryu traditional Karate and Kobudo head of the Shorin-ryu Karate-do & Kobudo Association; an Okinawan Cultural asset as described by the Okinawan Prefecture.

I charge $55/hr for self-defense lessons
Matsubayashi Karate-do & Kobudo training is on a per case basis, subject to student meeting the criteria for instruction.

Adolescents, Adults and Seniors. We have a program for students with Special Needs, with a focus on Autism, and another program for those individuals withour neurological conditions.

Our students brought home eleven (11) gold medals from the Miami Internaitonal Karate Open 2019
