Dr. Koh Kazama's Guitar Studio
About
Hello! My name is Koh, and I have been teaching guitar for over 10 years. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in psychology, and Master of Music and Artist Diploma in classical guitar performance from Yale University. I received my Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Stony Brook University. I am currently on the faculty at New World School of the Arts and Miami Dade College.
In my teaching, it is important to me that my students develop a love for music through the guitar and become well-rounded musicians. No matter what their musical background or level, I believe that
all students can find joy in listening to music and expressing themselves on the guitar. As an active performing musician, I understand the importance of building strong foundations in practicing, technique, and music theory. In my lessons, I teach my students ways to practice efficiently, and I encourage them to consistently self-evaluate their playing so that they can eventually become their own teachers. Technical exercises will help
my students gain a better facility with the guitar, while music theory will allow them to have a deeper understanding of the music that they play. Each student learns and responds differently, so I always strive to find what works best for them, and of course, what makes it enjoyable for them!
