Douglas Morgan Guitar Lessons
About
My teaching approach:
US Army retired; I primarily teach adult education, avg age of my students is over 50; specializing in re-starting folks who used to play, back in their day. No music reading necessary; I create and make all my own learning materials using Tablature and chord diagrams to effectively communicate musical ideas. Based upon the studentsâ€TM desires, I prepare an organized plan enabling the student to achieve their personal goals. I may not know all the answers, but I'll sure find them, and show you how it's accomplished.
My influences are:
Influences: the 1930s and40s thru the 70s; if they played guitar, I was influenced. I teach and play the styles of Merle Travis, Chet Atkins; Rev Gary Davis, Mississippi John Hurt & Big Bill Broonzy. Solo guitar chord melody arrangements; living room & back porch style
My guitar lessons take place in:
The teacher's studio

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:
We evaluate each other and determine if I'm best suited to be your teacher, and you my student. We talk guitar; and guitar music. The students outline their basic goals, what music they want to be able to play; and I demonstrate some of the basic skills required. From there we outline the basics of what will be a personalized individual plan to progress towards the student's goals.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:
Lessons are for learning; the student practices at home and shows practice results during the lesson. This is the basis for forward progress. Goals & desires change, and change with knowledge. The student is by no means mandatorily committed to one single musical guitarist element; change musical direction, change again. Explore one style, then another; thereâ€TMs plenty of variety, lots of ways to approach playing; find what you like, then feel free to try something else.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:
Students have to practice, students have to play. I can not help you if you do not show me what your doing, and how you do it; only then can I show you how to accomplish what you desire. its all Hands On. The student can expect ALL questions answered; 100% commitment to help you accomplish your playing goals; and 100% dedication to them.
