Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

I typically arrange for an interview prior to the first lesson to speak with the student and get an idea of his or her interests, goals, playing ability, and other important factors to consider. Then, at the first lesson, valuable time can be better spent delving into the basics, developing skills, and beginning to build a solid foundation.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

I prefer for the student to arrive slightly early and warm up before the lesson, so I can maximize instruction time. Once warmed up, I typically work with the student on theory and technique for the first part of the lesson. Following this, I focus on helping the student apply the concepts in learning songs that interest the student. I make an effort to customize the learning experience to the needs of the student in order to make lessons productive and fun.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

My ideal student is one who has a strong drive to learn and a persistent motivation to put in the practice it takes to achieve success in playing guitar. Such a student will go far.
