What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Taking the all-important time to sit and just talk with a student to get a feel for their skill level, what kind of person they are, and what they want to learn is a cardinal first step with any student.
After getting a feel for how the student plays, what they want to learn, and what they like to play, I then briefly go over any skills they already know before adding anything new to their belt. After some time was spent going over material, it's always a good time to just play music together -- have a jam! What's the point of learning if you can't have fun applying the knowledge?
