About

My name is Micah Cadwell. I have been a professional guitar instructor and performer since 2002. During that time, I have worked with hundreds of students, helping them to achieve their personal musical goals. In the past 5 years, I have shifted my career to concentrate more on working with adult students. My lessons cover many different aspects of guitar from jazz, harmony, advanced theory, improvisation, country/western, songwriting, Americana, and folk music. I have also recently released two instructional books, the first focuses on a melodic use of triads and the second deals with improvising in a minor key. Please go to micahcadwell.com to learn more.

My favorite part of teaching has always been helping students achieve the goals that they have set for themselves. I have worked with folks from their first day as a musician, helping them pick out their first guitar, all the way up to seeing them accepted to a college music program, performing at a local venue, or recording their first album. Helping to foster that sort of growth in a student is such an honor.

What I really enjoy about Micah’s guitar lessons are that whatever aspect of musical style or technique that I have interest in, he always has an organic way of expounding on the subject. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or a seasoned guitarist because Micah can adapt to your needs and interests. I have enjoyed playing for nearly 50 years and have had various instructors. But never have I been so inspired to practice and really put in the work necessary to excel to meet my goals. I learn something of value in every weekly lesson.

I have learned more about music and combining intervals to create interesting solos and chords than ever before in 20 years of owning a guitar

    Frequently asked questions

The first lesson is a chance for us to get to know each other, discuss your musical goals, and develop a path forward together.

I have studied guitar for 30 years and have been teaching for 18. In 2008, I opened Carry-a-Tune Music, an in-home lesson studio that served the greater Atlanta, GA area. Since closing the company in 2018, I have gone back to teaching privately. I also recently released 2 instructional books on different aspects of jazz guitar.

Lessons are 60 minutes and are $60 per session. They are billed in 4 lesson 'blocks'. Once the 4 lessons are used up, you are invited to purchase 4 more. Scheduling is weekly, however some folks prefer lessons every other week so that they have plenty of time to practice and work on all the topics that we discuss. Payments can be made through Venmo or PayPal.

In 2002, I was performing at a restaurant with a jazz trio and during the break a gentleman approached and asked if I would be interested in giving him some lessons. I was so flattered! We began working together soon after and when I realized how much I was able to share about the guitar--something I loved so much--I was hooked. I began teaching private lessons full-time soon after.

I have worked with students from all over the world, from age 7 to 87. In the past 5 years or so, I have really begun to focus on working with adult students with a concentration on jazz, improvisation, fingerstyle, and country/western.
