Larry S. says, "I have been practicing yoga under the guidance of Samantha Lieberman for the past 3 1/2 years. Her wealth of experience, eternal optimism, and ongoing encouragement have enabled me to flourish as a yoga student. Sam is knowledgeable in a variety of yoga disciplines, and regardless of what type of yoga is being practiced, I have always felt comfortable and accepted. She is immensely supportive, regardless of age, ability, or skill level, and doesn’t just give lip service to the concept of NO JUDGEMENT but rather exemplifies it through her personalized approach with each individual yoga student. I found that private sessions with Sam have huge benefits. Not only do I find the immediate feedback very helpful, but each session is tailored specifically to me with absolutely no distractions. This enables me to maximize every single minute of my session. Private sessions are a terrific alternative to practicing in a group, and there’s no better instructor than Sam!!" Read more

Yoga has been a part of my life for over 8 years. My personal practice has helped me grow physically and mentally both on and off the mat. Yoga inspires me to live each moment more mindfully. Certified through Yoga Alliance as a RYT 200, I completed my teacher training at Spirit Rising in Brighton, MI. I will always be a student of the practice and love learning new things each day. My teaching style is non-judgemental, goal oriented, and authentic. In my classes you will not hear much Sanskrit, and I love to laugh and grow with my students. My goal is for you to step off the mat, returning to your life and loved ones, feeling refreshed, ...

Your Yoga Classes questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much do yoga classes cost?

Single group sessions at yoga studios cost $15 to $20 on average. For private yoga training, you will likely spend between $30 and $70 on each lesson. Yoga classes mostly take place in a group setting, and the price per class depends on the location, yoga teacher’s knowledge and experience, and years of teaching.

How long is a yoga class?

On average, a yoga class is 75 to 90 minutes long. Many instructors say 90 minutes is simply how long it takes to pace through all the sacred yoga asanas, but a new shorter 60 minute class is quickly becoming popular with students.

What to wear to yoga class?

Most women prefer to wear tank tops or a sports bra that's made of a cotton and lycra (spandex) blend when they do yoga. Loose tee shirts and underwire bras are usually a no-no because they have a tendency to get in the way of movement.

For the bottoms, most women prefer to wear tights. These comfortable and stretchable pants will provide you with a full range of movement and allow your instructor to check your alignment. For slower-paced classes, you may be able to pull off wearing long skirts or stretchable harlem pants.

What to bring to yoga class?

Although many necessities are usually provided for you, there are a few things you may still want to bring yourself.

Here's what to bring to yoga class:

  1. Comfortable yoga attire
  2. Water bottle
  3. Hand towel
  4. Yoga mat
  5. Change of clothes
  6. Post-yoga snack

How often should you do yoga?

For those who are already quite active, doing yoga at least once or twice per week is recommended. For experienced practitioners, doing yoga every day is not uncommon. However, if you begin to be sore, consider taking a day or two off. Even if you only do you for one hour a week, you will experience the benefits of the practice.

How long does it take to get good at yoga?

There are many beginner yoga poses and sequences that you can get good at in your first yoga class. On a more spiritual level, it may take a lifetime to find the union between mind, body and spirit. You should expect to practice regularly for about six months before you feel confident that you can perform fundamental poses steadily and with some degree of proper form.
