My teaching approach: My approach is to teach student all necessarily basic classical guitar skills, work on individuality expression and developing of unique interest within wide range of guitar repertoire. I teach classical guitar technique, along with improvisation and music theory. Depending on students level and interest I incorporate variety of performance aspects. I used to teach kids for years, as well as beginning guitar students. My influences are: Julian Bream, Andres Segovia, Dusan Bogdanovic, John Zorn, Pat Matheny, Django Reinhardt,etc. My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher's studio Guitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas: guitar studio, Minnepolis Guitar Techniques: Fingerstyle, Performance, Improvisation, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following: I work on basics of guitar technique: posture, right and left hand position, C-major scale, simple song on the first string. A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: Class settings: First semester of private guitar studio, pre-college guitar program. Overall goals: 1. Learning basic classical guitar techniques; variety of pieces from different music epochs. 2. Learning basic major/minor scales and applying then to simple improvisation exercises, creating melodic patterns. 3. Sight reading music for classical guitar. 4. Developing performing skills, through playing through playing in concerts at the end of semester. 5. Listening to different music styles, recognizing, evaluating and appreciating music for guitar and music in general. Behavioral Objects: 1. Student will perform simple “rest stroke” exercises. 2. Student will perform A-minor scale. 3. Student will perform trad. Serbian piece arr.for guitar “Tamo daleko.” 4. Student will perform “Twinkle, twinkle little star.” The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: ideal student is practicing for home assignments, is curious and communicative.
