Heather A. says, "I loved the personalized attention. At my consultation, I was asked to bring in a picture of someone's body I liked so they could further see the goals I was trying to obtain for myself. I had specific goals that I wanted to achieve and it was nice to have Rebekah my trainer in my corner cheering me on. When I would get stuck she was always there to push me to hit my next goal! Body Like That was one of the most rewarding workout program's I have done and the results showed! I appreciated the fact that the workouts were always different so I never got board with the same routine and I always looked forward to going to the gym to see what was next!" Read more

Ryan G. says, "Justin is an amazing trainer! I’ve been working with him for nearly a year and I’ve never felt stronger in my life. He is a great teacher and doesn’t pressure anyone to do anything that is beyond their limits. He truly understands your goals and works together with you to build a plan to achieve them. The workouts he constructs are tailored to each person based on their experience and needs. He is with you every step of the way coaching you, motivating you, and even working out with you to demonstrate the appropriate lifting techniques to ensure you are doing everything correctly and safely. All of this leads to maximum results in a safe manner. He’s pushed me to limits I never thought possible! I’d highly recommend Justin to anyone looking to train and get in better shape. On top of that he is an overall awesome guy! Look no further! You found your next trainer! " Read more

Your boxing questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much are boxing classes?

Boxing classes cost $25 to $35 per group class or $75 to $200 per month on average. Total prices depend on the location, experience, and how often you meet. On top of the cost of lessons, you may need to buy the following equipment:

  • Wraps or gauze: $5 to $20
  • Boxing gloves: $20 to $80
  • Mouth guard: $10 to $20

What are the weight classes in boxing?

There are 17 different weight classes in boxing that help prevent injury and promote fair fights. Only people in the same weight class can box with each other. The lightest class is called Strawweight and is for people that weigh 105 to 107 pounds. The largest is Heavyweight and is for people over 200 pounds.

Are boxing classes worth it?

Boxing classes are worth it if you're looking for a good whole-body workout or want to learn self-defense. Boxing is easier to learn and inexpensive compared to many gym memberships or martial arts classes.

Boxing is not only a good cardio workout, it also works out the arms, legs, and core. This fighting style also releases tension in a safe environment while helping you reach fitness goals.

How many boxing classes should I attend per week?

Most people attend boxing classes 1 to 3 times per week, though this depends on your budget and schedule. For the best results, consider exercising at the gym or at home in between classes to build strength and endurance.

What should I wear to a boxing class?

Wear comfortable, lightweight clothing and shoes to a boxing class. Most people wear shorts and a T-shirt or tank top. Remember to bring a water bottle and small towel to hydrate and remove sweat during the workout.

How do I hire a boxing trainer?

Start by searching our list of boxing classes, then:

  • Get 3+ free estimates to compare.
  • Read their reviews on Lessons and Google.
  • Choose a gym that is licensed and experienced.
  • Get a written estimate and schedule before the classes begin.
  • Follow a payment schedule instead of making large payments up front.

After asking questions and verifying credentials, hire the best boxing instructor in your area.

What questions should I ask boxing instructors?

When looking for local boxing classes, ask these questions:

  • How long have you been teaching boxing classes?
  • Are you licensed and insured?
  • How many students do you have?
  • Are you experienced teaching beginners?
  • Do you have any current openings?
  • Are there any other people in my weight class here?
  • How often would you recommend meeting based on my experience level?
  • Can I have an estimate or contract in writing?

I’ve done strength training and body building training with Justin. And not that I’m a Mr. Olympia, but I’ve been doing both on my own for 25+ years. But wanted to work with Justin to get more precise and growth in both areas, although not to get bigger per say, but stronger, more complete and balanced. Justin is OUTSTANDING. He works all body parts...and each with concentration...both in # of sets and always 8-10 reps per set. Great as gets you the reps but also it’s the perfect automatic guide to when you can increase the weight of that particular excersise. Justin also has incredible attention to detail on form and technique which is critical. I thought I was good at both, but have gotten much better with his not only guidance but watching me as I’m doing the set...and he’ll not critique me, but always to get better. Finally Justin does tailors everything to where I am at...and it’s never about you sets being too light or not being strong...it’s always find the baseline for you on every type of set and each set...again based on being able to do 8-10 reps each set. P.S. Justin does what most overlook and not do...great warm up with weights. I cannot recommend Justin enough to train anyone at any level. Dead serious.
