About
Whether a student desires a formal martial arts education or practical self-defense training, I strive to give my students the tools they need to increase their physical and mental capacities, overcome personal obstacles, address fears/concerns, and prepare for a variety of situations. While martial arts and self defense training are to be taken seriously, learning and training should also be enjoyable.
I have been training in martial arts for over 20 years. I earned my 4th dan black belt/Master rank in Taekwondo in 2016, currently hold a 3rd gup red belt in Hapkido, and have training in Jujutsu, Tai Chi, and weapon defense. In addition to heading Greensboro Black Belt Academy's branch at Hayes-Taylor YMCA, I have instructed seminars, programs, and classes, as well as provided private lessons for students from a wide range of ages and backgrounds. I also worked as a professional and private tutor for 8 years and am adept at helping students address problem areas.
Martial arts and self-defense are my passions. I find martial arts enhances life not only through exercise, but in the self-discipline and confidence it instills. I believe self-defense is both a vital life skill and a great and fun creative exercise. I love watching my students improve and become more confident in themselves and their skills over time. Nothing makes me more proud than to see something click for student, to watch them overcome their personal obstacles. I began training in martial arts because of my desire to learn how to protect myself, and it's fantastic to help others along their path.
