Dave has instructed guitar in community college, small businesses, and private households. He believes music is more than "just music”. He strives to help children and adults excel in confidence, critical thinking, and understanding music in both its physical & technical skill, and theoretical concepts. Dave dedicates his time to teaching students how to practice rather than expecting results through assignments. With Dave's guidance, students can see immediate improvement with focused, limited practice week-after-week. Watching his students build confidence in their skill is what makes him passionate about teaching the instrument.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always ask what music the student listens to because that will determine their path in music. The student's age is also taken into consideration.
For students under 12 years old, I assign a child-friendly book that gets them playing on day one, and download a metronome app on their phone.
For teenagers and adults, I begin with open chords and/or sheet music reading. I only assign sheet music reading for younger teenagers, or students who want to reach an advanced level of playing. The chords I choose to teach during the first lesson are based on a song the student may want to learn, therefore, the beginning lessons are working up to a song of their choice.
For advanced students, I'm available for lessons in reading and technique.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Dave White is a Camden County native and has been pursuing his passion for music since he was eleven years old. Starting on bass guitar, he later switched his attention to the electric and classical guitar - studying both popular and classical styles of music.
Dave would obtain degrees in music from Camden County College in Blackwood, NJ, and a Bachelor’s of Music in Classical Guitar from Rowan University, graduating summa cum laude.
After college, Dave performed first chair in the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Ensemble, and on weekends, performed at Ivan Kane’s Royal Jelly in Atlantic City, a nightclub featuring a vibrant rock n’ roll set.
From 2020 to mid-2022, Dave performed in Legacy band, one of Philadelphia's premiere top-40 bands. The band consists of former members of Don't Call Me Francis band and current members of John Legend and the Philly Pops.
Dave is currently teaching guitar at Archbishop Ryan Catholic High School in Northeast Philadelphia.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I can not stress the importance of time! It is a pet peeve of mine when I substitute for teachers, and their students have no concept of time; whether they're children or adults. It is one of the most important aspects of playing/learning music.
A teacher should always emphasize rhythm and time. If not, they're not doing you a great service.
