About

I have been teaching privately for over 20 years. I have a BA in Music Education from the College of New Jersey and taught in the schools as well. During that time I honed my skills on the violin and viola. I am currently focusing on giving private instruction, however, I do also teach a few classes at a private school in the Princeton area.

I specialize in teaching and playing stringed instruments with cello being my primary instrument. I also played trombone starting in elementary school and continued into college, playing in the concert, marching and jazz bands. I started playing bass in a rock and roll and blues band over 20 years ago and we are still together.

Needless to say, I have quite the diverse background, and I believe this helps me to be the best musician and educator that I can be. Yet, I still feel like I am always learning and looking for new ways to teach. Every student is different and you need to be able to adapt and experiment with different ways to teach the same thing. In the end, it is always about helping the student to succeed!

Our son has been taking cello lessons with Ken for over 6 years. It’s motivated our son to stick with cello as well as explore other instruments. Ken is very flexible as far as lesson timing as well as changing needs during the year for school concerts, auditions as well as mechanics, maintenance and music theory. We love Ken and highly recommend him as a music teacher for all ages.

Ken is very knowledgable on a variety of instruments. He is patient with his students, and provides practical tips and guidance to help them with their lessons. He always provides positive feedback, and emphasizes to his students that practice is the key to getting better. We have worked with Ken for many years with our daughter on violin, guitar, and ukelele lessons.

I am an adult beginner cello student and have been taking lessons with Ken for 7 months. I have enjoyed EVERY weekly lesson! Ken is a very talented and skilled teacher. He has taken great care to understand where I am in my musical journey and where I would like to be within a certain timeframe. Ken encourages mastery of cello fundamentals (bowing, intonation, shifting, etc.) while allowing me to progress at my own pace. This is crucial to my enjoyment of the lessons because as an adult with a career and a family, my practice time is not always consistent. Most importantly, Ken is extremely flexible and patient, particularly when students become frustrated and stubborn. He consistently and gently guides students over the inevitable bumps in the road to mastery of their instrument. I highly recommend Ken as a cello teacher.
