About
I have been teaching Bass, Mandolin & Guitar for more than 25 years. I teach seminars with musicians improvising throughout the northeast with The Wernick Method (bgjam.com Classes & Camps). I have performed throughout the US. Some of my students have had great success becoming professional musicians. I have a natural tendency to encourage my students musically. I am able to get them to start playing songs immediately. I keep it fun while teaching the techniques needed for the students to excel rapidly. I operate a musical website BackstageView.com
I love when a student has progressed and begins to love music on an entirely different level. It is most satisfying to actually play together with the student and then see them join with other musicians or be able to perform on their own

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First we review what their background is musically. We discuss their musical goals. I always begin with the fundamentals needed to become a musician while interspersing musical ideas with their goals. I always make sure to leave them with a song they can play that will help them to enjoy practicing.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a Wernick certified Music Teacher. I have a Masters degree in Secondary Education. I go to at least 6-12 workshops each year as a student and I am an instructor for 6-10 different workshops each year. I play in numerous bands and I run a music website backstageView.com
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $35 up to an hour for students unless I need to go over the Bridge and pay a toll. Then I add $5 which is the cost of the toll.
How did you get started teaching?
When I was 14 years old I started taking lessons and jamming with friends. Pretty much immediately I had neighborhood kids asking me to teach them what I know musically. I enjoy teaching tremendously. I get a great sense of satisfaction.
What types of students have you worked with?
I teach children and Senior Citizens and everything in-between. My youngest student was 9. My oldest is 95
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I often teach group lessons throughout the northeast. I had a student come to me thanking me for my efforts stating that they had no idea what to expect and that my lessons have opened up their eyes to a new world and appreciation of learning music.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Considering that music is considered a hobby to most people I think it is very important to feel comfortable and friendly with your instructor. This will most likely keep you motivated. I feel that students should be influenced by more than one source so I recommend that they also watch YouTube videos of teachers.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should have an idea about their goals They should also understand that the more they know about something the more there is a chance to expand their goals.
