About

The Paul Michael School of Music is very selective about which teachers we hire so you receive only the best. While our teachers have outstanding musicianship (sight-reading, technique, expression), they also have the more rare aural skills, theory knowledge and compositional talent to create a truly unique experience for you or your child.

Our teachers don't rely solely on method books and old public domain music, they keep lessons fresh and exciting by composing original pieces individually catered to their students. They also arrange pop music so you can play the music that you relate to regardless of current skill level.

It is incredibly rewarding to share my love of music with students, and to see them truly enjoying music. The school accomplishes this through teaching repertoire that our students connect with - our philosophy is that you can learn technique, musicality, and theory through all music. While we include classic repertoire, we supplement it with fun music our students select. Our teachers arrange these choices so that the difficulty level is just right.

Manu mixes theory, pop, and music production in a way that keeps my 9 YO son engaged. He is also very nice and invites him to his performances.

    Frequently asked questions

Leading up to the first lesson we will have a conversation about goals, what you would like to get out of your music lessons. Any information about your child's learning profile, interests or anything that would be helpful is conveyed to your teacher and a plan is customized to your needs and interests. At the first lesson, your child will be playing music and engaging with their instrument.

All teachers have advanced musical degrees, with a couple exceptions where there is extraordinary professional experience.

We have several concerts throughout the year, including a special Halloween Concert coming up where students play spooky songs and are encouraged to dress in their halloween costume. One of my favorite concerts is a smaller less formal concert, where our students play for senior citizens at a local senior community. It is a great opportunity for students to get experience performing in front of an audience, and the seniors are delighted with our young musicians.

I think it is important that your teacher has a high level of expertise, and is able to communicate and connect with their students. I recommend inquiring about their background, and taking a trial lesson to see if your child connects with the teacher.
