I am a credentialed teacher of English Language Arts and an Education Specialist of mild-moderate learning disabilities with 10 years of public school teaching experience. I bring yoga into the classroom. I believe mind and body connection practices make us better life-long learners. Without yoga I would not be able to teach anything. I think learning about ourselves is most crucial before teaching anyone anything. Yoga is everything. I earned my yoga certification in Southern California 7 years ago. I have been a yogi for 12 years. I do hot yoga, vinyasa, yin, restorative, and meditation. I enjoy creating a yoga routine that is centered aro...

12 years experience tutoring. I utilize manipulatives such as learning puzzles and interactive mobile apps. Multiple representations helps the student visualize the material and its real-world applications. I also edit essays, and have had med school applications accepted. I have had students go from B minus to A plus in their English writing assessments. I love helping people learn new skills, which in turn solidifies my own skills.

Your Yoga Classes questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much do yoga classes cost?

Single group sessions at yoga studios cost $15 to $20 on average. For private yoga training, you will likely spend between $30 and $70 on each lesson. Yoga classes mostly take place in a group setting, and the price per class depends on the location, yoga teacher’s knowledge and experience, and years of teaching.

How long is a yoga class?

On average, a yoga class is 75 to 90 minutes long. Many instructors say 90 minutes is simply how long it takes to pace through all the sacred yoga asanas, but a new shorter 60 minute class is quickly becoming popular with students.

What to wear to yoga class?

Most women prefer to wear tank tops or a sports bra that's made of a cotton and lycra (spandex) blend when they do yoga. Loose tee shirts and underwire bras are usually a no-no because they have a tendency to get in the way of movement.

For the bottoms, most women prefer to wear tights. These comfortable and stretchable pants will provide you with a full range of movement and allow your instructor to check your alignment. For slower-paced classes, you may be able to pull off wearing long skirts or stretchable harlem pants.

What to bring to yoga class?

Although many necessities are usually provided for you, there are a few things you may still want to bring yourself.

Here's what to bring to yoga class:

  1. Comfortable yoga attire
  2. Water bottle
  3. Hand towel
  4. Yoga mat
  5. Change of clothes
  6. Post-yoga snack

How often should you do yoga?

For those who are already quite active, doing yoga at least once or twice per week is recommended. For experienced practitioners, doing yoga every day is not uncommon. However, if you begin to be sore, consider taking a day or two off. Even if you only do you for one hour a week, you will experience the benefits of the practice.

How long does it take to get good at yoga?

There are many beginner yoga poses and sequences that you can get good at in your first yoga class. On a more spiritual level, it may take a lifetime to find the union between mind, body and spirit. You should expect to practice regularly for about six months before you feel confident that you can perform fundamental poses steadily and with some degree of proper form.

I had back, neck and shoulder injuries, so I was apprehensive about training in general. Kathy's methods and attention to detail have resulted in a significant improvement in my strength and mobility. After two years of weekly sessions, I have never left feeling injured--the result of Kathy's care and precision throughout each workout.

“I saw immediate results in my first few weeks of training with Hollye and continuous improvement since. She’s got an incredible eye for areas that need increased focus or development and always pushes me to exceed my own expectations. Every time I think there’s no room to grow, she shows me a new technique or routine that reinvigorates my approach to fitness. I honestly can’t say enough good things about Hollye as we embark on year 4 of our journey.”
