Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Quickly, courteously, respectfully, efficiently learn everything I can about the special needs, wants, desires of the student. Develop the most effecient, effective, quick, easy, simple methods to immediately address everything I have learned: get the student all the places they want to go and show them the easiest, quickest, simplest, most enjoyable ways to get there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied Finance/Economics and Systems Engineering in the Management and Technology Program at the
Wharton Business School,
Moore School of Engineering
("Moore's Law", The ENIAC: 1st "computer"- WWII balistics and feasibillity of the thermonuclear weapon) at the
University of Pennsylvania.... but....
I have been playing/studying music (keyboards, singing) since I was three years old. I studied music in grammer school (clarinet "I want to play the really "cool" looking instrument: all black and covered in silver metal!!...Wait what am doing in a room full of girls every week...instead of stuck in math...).
I studied music in high school: we had a full recording studio where I recorded my first record - I sang, played keyboards and lead guitar - wrote the music and lyrics, did all the arranging and orchestration. I was president of our Recording Studio Club. I sang in Choir, A Cappella Choir and was accepted to All State Choir. We won 2nd place in the state singing A Cappella in Mary's Canary's Beach Boys Medley. I was chosen as the lead in a few theatrical productions too.
I also studied music at both the University of Pennsylvania (composition, theory, history, ear training, etc.) and Florida Atlantic University (history, more theory, jazz solo and ensemble performance). But before I could finish at FAU I was already touring with a multi-platinum, multi-billboard #1 charting, "Hall of Fame", international recording artist.
Since then I have...

How did you get started teaching?
I have been teaching ever since I was approached by various friends in high school - they were all asking me to teach them everything I could.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with all the extremes: extremely young (babies in fact!) to the oldest and wisest among us! From absolute beginners (fun!) to players equal or even in some aspects beyond my abilities (even more fun!!). I've also been lucky enough to teach and coach some of the many internationally famous artists I've shared stages with around the world. Everyone has something to learn, right?
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently settled down with my wife and two boys...but just before that I had been touring Europe with the opening, warm up act for WASP:
The last PRO gig I had was with
HOUSE OF GAMES https://soundcloud.com/tags/house%20of%20games
singing all the higher back-up vocals (“hitting” a high C every night?!? I have plenty of live recordings!) and playing multiple keyboards in multiple time signatures and multiple rhythms in each hand (I had to learn ALL the parts WITHOUT any instrument -totally absurd-by transcribing them onto plain paper on the airplane from New York to Europe!! )
ONE audition/rehearsal and then immediately touring...opening for the
WASP WORLD DOMINATOR TOUR...(I got to hear the live recording -only once...copyrights- of when we auditioned for Road Runner Records while being broadcast LIVE over the radio to over 50,000 listeners!!)
HOUSE OF GAMES CD was produced by Kevin (Caveman) Shirley (AEROSMITH, DREAM THEATER, IRON MAIDEN, RUSH, etc.) in Bennett Studios. Tracks were mastered at Masterdisk Studio in NYC by Howie Weinberg.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make absolutely sure you are investing your time, energy and hard earned money as wisely, effectively and efficienty as possible. Make certain you are comfortable, having fun (very important!) and most importantly learning and advancing in the exact ways that YOU want.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Every question you can think of that might possibly effect you achieving all or any of your goals both short and long term. This always helps me immensely in helping students get where they want go as quickly, pleasantly, effectively, efficiently as possible. Don't listen to any one who tells you that there are no shortcuts...on the contrary insist on learning each and every - all!! - the possible professional/expert/insider shortcuts, tips, tricks, "secrets", etc.
