Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First I learn why the student is interested in guitar and music. Then I create lessons that tailor to his or her needs. From there I begin to understand the student as a person, how does he or she learn, personality, vision, and so on. At all times I make sure he or she is progressing at a decent pace, keep up the challenge and discovery, and keep it fun and creative!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a professional musician, teacher, and composer since 1993. I graduated from the prestigious Berklee College of Music. After I moved to Japan as a hired composer for Nippon TV. I also taught music at various universities, high schools, private schools, and workshops around the world. All while free-lansing as a successful composer and performing musician. I've own my own music school, Nook Nook Creative Music School, in both Japan and the USA.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
At my school in Doylestown, I charge $120 for weekly lessons. Private lessons are 30 minutes and group lessons are 60 minutes.
How did you get started teaching?
Since I was a teenager I was interested in teaching music and creativity. It became my part-time job when I was a high school student. For me, music and art are all about learning. They are interchangeable with education. If music and art teach me something then I consider it worthwhile.
What types of students have you worked with?
All kinds, ages, abilities, interests - you name it, I taught them!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My family and I recently moved from Japan back to my hometown in Bucks County, Pa to open our second school. It's been an amazing adventure so far!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You should like them as a person first. Make sure they are not only great musicians but dedicated teachers as well. Teaching and playing music should be equally important to them. Always check their backgrounds.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They should consider deeply what they want out of music. Why is music important to them.
