Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I meet with the student and have them give me a sense of their musical background. Then I'll hear them play and assess what direction to go from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors of Music in piano performance from the Oberlin Conservatory and a Masters of Music in piano performance from The Manhattan School of Music. I also trained as an accompanist and chamber musician.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I typically charge $85 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching in highschool. My first private piano student was a seventy year old man who had recently gone blind. His daughter thought that starting piano lessons could be a wonderful experience for him. It ended up being one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
What types of students have you worked with?
Adults, children of all ages, etc.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher who you feel comfortable with, a teacher who will challenge you in the ways you'd like to be challenged, and one who is kind and patient.
