I am a faculty member at The Juilliard School and Mannes College of Music where I teach piano, chamber music and fortepiano. From 2008-2015 I was also Dean of Students at Mannes College of Music. I bring a wealth of experience about musical style as well as the building of a healthy and ergonomic technique to my teaching. I also know about conservatory education from the inside out. In addition to my experience in administration, I have twenty year's experience sitting on admissions panels at Juilliard and Mannes so I am knowledgeable about how to prepare a successful entrance audition program to be admitted to an elite conservatory. I am endlessly fascinated by the grammar and vocabulary of musical language from different stylistic periods. I specialize in repertoire of the classical era which I often teach and perform on historical fortepianos from the late 18th century. One of my favorite things it to expose pianists to how Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert's music transforms and becomes more vibrant when classical performance practice ideas are part of the learning process. My private students are usually adult amateurs who are want to work in a detailed manner to improve their skills or young adults preparing for conseratory or conservatory pre-college auditions.
