About

Hello! My name is Alyssa. I can't wait to meet you!

Experience: I've been teaching stringed instruments for over 6 years to many ages. I focus on the Suzuki method with the young children and I believe in strong fundamentals. Ear training is a wonderful gift that comes with the discipline of violin study. As the student's ear gets stronger, improvisational techniques can be taught. This allows for broader musicianship and enjoyment in learning. I also encourage my students to memorize each piece of music. For the grade-school students, this can help them build the tools and confidence necessary to succeed in the classroom outside of music. Music education can be useful in all areas of one's life.

Performance: I've been performing with the violin for nearly 20 years. I've played with the Hershey Symphony, Penn State's Philharmonic Orchestra, various chamber groups, and many types of bands across a large variety of genres. I've fallen in love with performing in NYC rock bands as well as writing music for R&B artists.

I teach rock violin which is tons of fun!!

Education: Penn State University - Bachelor's of Music

Interests: I've studied adolescent development, child psychology, and music education during my time at Penn State University.

I love giving the gift of music. There is nothing so rewarding and life-changing than being able to play an instrument with creative freedom.

Frequently asked questions

Every student is so incredibly different. It's very important to understand each student's learning style as well as their own personality and how that can translate to growth on a musical instrument. Of course, I cater to the student's own interest as well and can transcribe any pop or rock tune into something that is appropriate for his/her level.

The first month is about building trust and goal-setting.

I have a Bachelor's Degree from Penn State in Musical Arts with a focus on violin performance. I've also taken 7 semesters of Music Education and child psychology courses to prepare for a lifetime journey in the field of music education.

When I was in High School, I thought I would get out of my comfort zone and assist my private music instructor by hosting a group Suzuki violin course for her young, beginner students. I immediately fell in love! Seeing their growth, individually and together, was incredibly rewarding. I began receiving requests to teach private lessons and after a couple of years, I had music studios in several locations across south-central Pennsylvania. I decided to continue my education at Penn State University where I continued teaching students.

I have taught students of all levels and backgrounds from the age of 4 years-old to retirees looking for a new hobby. I can teach through High School in the realm of college prep (advanced repertoire).
