Jennifer Liu Violin Lessons
About
I am an enthusiastic and energetic violinist seeking out students with passion towards classical violin. I have a passion for teaching because I believe in sharing my curiostiy with the next generation of young thinkers and creators.
I am a graduate of the Juilliard School where I studied solo, chamber, and orchestral music. During my time there, I had the opporutunity to work and collaborate with some of the most inspiring artists performing today. Please visit my website: JenniferLiuViolin.com for more information about myself.
I am so fulfilled through my students progress simply by their curiosity and willingness to take in music. Music is universally enjoyed by everyone which is such a strong foundation to have already. I get to watch and guide the journey of my students through my own unique experiences that led me to where I am today as a performer and teacher. My goal is to share my experiences with as many students as possible in the most nurturing way as possible.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by asking them why they chose the violin. I am curious to know if they enjoy listening to certain types of music. From their personal answers, I can then assess what size instrument to get, practice books, and music for them to learn from. As a foundation, we will always work from a place positivity and graciousness towards the instrument.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have always loved teaching violin because my own mother started teaching me at the age of 4. I have seen first hand what works and what doesn't with certain types of learners. Moreover, my 20 years on the instrument have taught me innumerable ways to practice and approach the instrument as organically as possible. I take most of my inspiration from my own teachers from Juilliard plus my hours spent in the practice room and infuse those techniques into my teaching practice.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $75 per hour if you travel to me. I charge more if I need to travel to you which is decided once location is discussed.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching by helping my mom teach her students when she needed extra help or assistance. I grew impassioned by the notion of teaching as a way of improving my playing because they become gentle reminders of what is important.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages, ethnicities, and levels. Every person has a unique story which brings variety in every student I meet.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was recently at a music festival in Vermont working with an idol of mine. We were working on a piece written just a few years ago and I was having trouble relating to it. In a simple manner, she said, "Treat this piece as if you were playing a Brahms Sonata." This was a revelatory statement simply because all music and all art is approachable if you have the right mindset.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would recommend that you have an open mind and curiosity towards anything artistic. Our ears are one of our strongest sensory palaces and in order to absorb music, all we have to do is keep a positive outlook.
