My teaching approach: I love teaching all ages and levels, working with everyone from young children to retirees and everyone in between, whether they are absolute beginners or advanced players. I teach the way I learned, figuring out what kinds of music you'd love to play and how to get there, including the songs you already love, ones you've written, or pieces that expand your repertoire and musical knowledge.. My influences are: go to www.cathywinter.com for more info My guitar lessons take place in: NOW TEACHING REMOTELY ON ZOOM. Before COVID, lessons have always been in my studio. The transition to ZOOM has been really smooth. Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours: Arranged individually to fit our mutual schedules Guitar Techniques: Rhythm guitar, Open tuning, Fingerstyle, Slide Guitar, Performance, Reading Music, Song Writing Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following: I have you play what you already know how to do, talk about where you'd like to go, songs & styles you like, and, if you have been working with someone else or on your own, I ask new students to show or tell me about any music materials you have really liked working with and any that you have really NOT liked working with. I assess left hand abilities, right hand abilities, musical knowledge and musical interests. go to www.cathywinter.com for more info A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: Depending on a student's level and interests, lessons can combine elements of the real basics - chords, strums, picking patterns - as well as building into more complex aspects, like bass runs, melody and harmony lines, arranging breaks, music theory or instrumentals written out in tablature or standard music notation. Beginning students work on tablature instrumental pieces while they build up their stamina for chords and more complex instrumentals. The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: all ages & levels interested in acoustic guitar
I have loved playing guitar since I was a teenager. After many years of touring, recording and playing, I find am excited by helping people find their way into their own styles of playing. My strong background in roots and blues music gives me a lot of resources to widen my students' repertoire of styles and pieces. I can introduce students to old styles and artists from the 1920's like Mississippi John Hurt or help them work out ways to play tunes from the Grateful Dead, Modest Mouse or Ed Sheeran.

Cathy is a great teacher. I always look forward to talking with her. She provides me with new music that I want to play often, teaches me about music theory, gives me good tips and techniques for practicing, and is really patient.
I have been taking lessons with Cathy for over a year now. Orginally I found Cathy online and since the changes in our lives with Covid we have been doing all of our weekly lessons online. We haven't missed a beat! Zoom has worked well in that Cathy can hear and see what she needs to in order to teach effectively. I'm grateful to have found Cathy and enjoy each of our lessons together.
Cathy is an excellent musician and teacher. She is patient, kind and knowledgeable. She works with me on any song I select and gives me suggestions when I’m looking for new songs. Best of all I’m becoming a better at playing the guitar.
I am retired and taking guitar lessons with Cathy for a bit over a year and find the lessons fun and challenging . She is patient and informative without overtaxing the student. I recommend her highly
I ask what they want to learn, what& how they'd like to be playing in a few years. I also ask how long - and if - they've been playing guitar. Beginners start in a different way from people who been playing but have gotten stuck and want some new resources and directions.
