I took lessons for years with Chris Merola. He taught me from the beginning. I thought I would never be able to remember to learn all the chords and strings, etc. I was pleasantly surprised. I am a folky love Joni Mitchell, and Bob Dylan. I live in Australia now. When I come home to visit family, I get a refresher class with Chris. He RULES!

I came to guitar late. I had one never got around to learning how to play it. We had a flood in our basement and I came home to it floating right past me. Fast forward, my girlfriend got me an electric and a few lessons with Chris Merola. 2 years on, still going. I didn’t know a thing, now I play, might even get a band together!?

when i was looking for a guitar teacher, finding a patient one was real important, i took lessons with chris, and i found him to be insanely patient. aside from his zen like patience he taught me how to play marquee moon by Television who knows who they are? It’s a long song lots of riffs and solos. We methodically got thru it, i don’t know. He has an incredible ear .He can hear a part of a song and just start playing it.i mean immediately!! Scary!! very scary. If you want to learn how to play guitar he’s your man!

Frequently asked questions

I set up my class based on what the student wants to get from the guitar.I don't believe in cookie cutter lessons. Everyone is at a different point in their experience with music. I believe playing should be something you are pulled towards. That way learning guitar can be truly rewarding

I didn't graduate from music school, but I graduated from actually playing in bands that toured, played clubs, recorded albums. I lived and breathed it.

I charge 35 half hour lesson.

$70 full hour

Depending on distance I might add $4-5

I started teaching out of necessity. The singer in one the groups I was playing in, wanted to play when singing, and I volunteered, and the rest is..well years of teaching others!

I have taught children, teenagers, college, young adults, and adults re-picking up guitar, or looking for a challenge later on.

I taught a girl guitar many years ago, and came across her CD in a store recently. She had a record deal, and I felt like I truly had a hand in that even thou it was her hard work, I helped her at the beginning, I was pretty darn happy for her.

My advice would be to look for a teacher who is interested in you. What YOU want from the guitar. Check their references, and have a sense of where they came from and do.

Students should think about their expectations, and what they want from guitar, and what they hope to find in their teacher.
