My overall experience with Dan has been excellent!! I have never had singing lessons before and he started out with the basics...breathing exercises and technique. I did not know that all that really can make a person a better singer. I am now into my 6th lesson with him and I know I have improved. He is knowledgeable, patient, funny and shows interest in what your individual goals are. I would highly recommend him as a vocal teacher!!!

Dan focused quickly on the basic needs of breathing and finding range. Being an older singer that has never been trained I found his approach very helpful. We worked on basic vocal production, singing with guitar, and memorization.

Frequently asked questions

First I assess their current level of ability and experience through an interview and vocal exercises.  What follows is a lesson and development plan to help them achieve their desired goals, as well as what techniques to emphasize and improve upon.  Initial songs are selected to highlight their natural ability, as well as to challenge growth in a gradual manner.

I have a degree in Vocal Performance from Southern Oregon University, and additional training from the USC Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles, CA.  I’ve participated in master classes, opera and vocal workshops, performed as a featured concert soloist, and on the stage as well.

Lessons are prorated for the month, with the following options:

30 minutes: $30

45 minutes: $45

60 minutes: $60

I started teaching while attending graduate school at USC, and over the years gradually became more involved until it became my main passion alongside performing.

I have worked with beginners of all ages and backgrounds, as well as more advanced singers and professionals.

I have been chosen as the featured soloist for Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “5 Mystical Songs” and “Dona Nobis Pacem” with the Oregon Chorale and the Beaverton Symphony Orchestra.  These pieces are near and dear to my heart, and it’s an incredible honor to have the chance to perform them with a wonderful choir and orchestra!

Look for the care and interest they place in you as an individual.  Make sure you know if they have a particular specialization, and whether or not that fits your goals, and the kind of music you want to sing.

Think about the outcomes you want out of your lessons.  Ask yourself why you want them.  Finally, think about what you need from your teacher to help you achieve them.
