About

I have been playing keyboards for sixty-five years. I began my training as a student of accordion and piano and went on to further my studies in arranging and composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.

I have taught piano and accordion privately for 38 years. I moved my in home teaching to online teaching in 2020. I have found many advantages to teaching piano online. I use a multi camera set up with a audio platform that is superior to Zoom. Each student has their own portal where they can access their lessons and current music so that they can practice. I set a regular lesson time but can be flexible to reschedule when desired. I teach all ages, levels and types of music. I often have students pick songs they want to learn. I can arrange songs to match the student's abilities.

I am an experienced composer, arranger and performer and can teach all aspects of music.

I strongly encourage you to look into lessons with Lou. For the past 3 years he has been an incredible musical mentor for our son (12 yrs). He has been crucial in helping our kid hold onto his love for music even during periods of tween frustration/impatience. I wish I had had a music teacher like Lou as a kid — someone who empowers his students to explore and build competence in all aspects of working musicianship.
Lou provides standard classical-based technique, theory, and repertoire and ALSO custom-built instruction that is tailored to each students interests and enthusiasms. This is his special power: motivating kids to practice, play, and grow because they are getting to play what matters to them. He has arranged any piece my son has asked for, and helped him build improvisations and new arrangements in a variety of styles. He can teach a kid to play improvised jazz, he can work with rock and pop, he can make folk and folkloric arrangements. Now my son is loving his classical sonatinas after periods of time with rock songs, ragtime, Czech folk songs, video game melodies and all kinds of other material that he *wanted* to play.
The online platform works great—Lou has a great ear and he’s a technical whiz with all kinds of musical programs. He has a great light touch with corrective feedback, one of the many ways he builds musical confidence. He is technically skilled, reliable, knowledgeable, curious, nonjudgmental, and kind. He teaches how to learn, not how to imitate. He keeps kids in music.
We are so fortunate he has been our son’s teacher.
My son’s perspective: Lou is a good teacher because he tries to keep his students’ best interests at heart and knows just how to help them get better at playing challenging pieces.

Our daughters (11 and 13) have been taking lessons with Lou for over 5 years. He is an incredible musician and teacher. He is great with the kids in that he teaches at a level that they can understand and follow, and will help them learn songs theyre interested in. He also has a great ability to read their moods, redirect fussy kids, and get them ready to play. I was a bit worried at first about doing online lessons, but Lou’s ear for music is so good that he can pick up a missed note in a song, even over the computer. The online technology that he uses for lessons is easy to use -- its just like having him in the same room.
Our 11 year old says, “I like that his lessons are clear and he is very nice.”
Our 13 year old says, “He is nice and gives feedback that is useful to help me improve.”
