Guitar Aeon
About
Hello! I've been playing guitar since I was 12, so about 33 years now. Through my career I've toured the US extensively, with a handful of tours around the world as well, with bands such as Hella, The Advantage, Holy Smokes, and as a solo artist, and as a hired gun. I bring a real-world, self-taught approach to playing music, but I've also buried my nose in the books from time to time.
As a teacher I've taught total beginners up to career professionals. I bring an alternative approach to guitar and music theory, with an emphasis on finding out what's holding you back from your goals and bringing you closer a sense of wonder that hopefully compells you through learning blocks - focusing on the "play" in playing music.
I love helping students find the best questions to catapult them to the next level. 'What do you currently know?' and 'what would like to know?'are sometimes harder to see clearly on your own. I want to help you find the confidence to explore, whether it's by learning chord theory, dexterity exercises, techniques, or by expanding the creative approach to writing and rethinking your personal relationship with music.
My genre specialities are math rock, metal, indie, grunge, improvisation, and noise (because sometimes letting loose is a necessary balance to learning technique), and I've taught students who are interested in a wide range of styles from jazz to pop. I believe everyone needs to learn triads at some point.
