About
I teach my students how to understand all facets of guitar playing. I also teach them how to access their creativity and have their own voice.
In addition to teaching, I am a mindfulness coach and hypnotherapist. I bring aspects of these practices to help my students learn to be in the "flow state" that is optimal for performing.
I have been playing guitar, singing, and songwriting for over thirty years. I am the most accomplished in music that focuses on improvisation. I have shared the stage with Widespread Panic, The Samples and Max Creek.
I really inspired when someone that I am coaching has a breakthrough. There is a palpable joy when someone starts to "get it" and their playing takes off.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I am willing to have a free phone consultation with any student, to discuss their goals, prior to their first lesson.
I feel that I am most beneficial to guitar players that are seeking to become expressive improvisers.
We will break up our lessons into ear training, rhythm, and harmony. You will develop a great understanding of the fretboard.
Also, if it is of interest to the student, I teach meditation and visualization. This greatly increases creativity, focus and memory.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have studied privately with instructors from ages twelve to thirty-five. I took all the music theory electives that I could while earning a liberal arts associates degree from S.F City College.
I have recently been certified as a Hypnotist and Shamanic Practicioner. I believe that there are states of consciousness that assist the learning process and that increase creativity.
