My teaching approach:

I teach how to enjoy the instrument and how to find each student's individual style. I have a unique approach because I was self taught until going to The University of the Arts for Jazz Performance.

My influences are:

At first the big ones were Steve Howe from "Yes", Carlos Santana's "Abraxas", and Jimmy Page from "Led Zeppelin". Nowadays I'm interested in players like Steve Cropper "The MG's". Tasteful players.

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

I explain the key of C and where the half steps occur (between e-f and b-c). Then I explain the difference between a half step and whole step on the guitar. I then allow the student to find their own logic in this information and check to see that they understand it.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

It starts with knowing the neck by playing through the alphabet starting with the lowest note (E) and showing how the guitar is set up in sections. Then I explain how and why chords work. Once this foundation is set, the student will be able to convert all chords to minor and dominant 7. Then we work on feel.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

I like a curious person who is there to both learn guitar and use the lesson as a release. Like Yoga.
