Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I create personalized lesson plans for each of my students, depending on their needs. My first step is establishing their current level, proficincies, and interests. From their my students learn techniques and skills they can immediately engage with and start enjoying! I focus on making my lessons educational while bringing joy and nurturing a love and appreciation of music. For more advanced students, I focus on pushing them to reach their fullest potential.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BS in Music Technology from Northeastern University in Boston. While there I studied classical music composition, jazz, funk, fusion, rock, world, and metal performance. Following college, I was recruited into Teach for America corps where I taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science at Einstein Charter School in New Orleans. I also attended New Orleans Center for Creative Arts in high school where I studied jazz performance and theory, while I was at N.O.O.C.A I attended Berklee College of Music's 5 Week Summer Program on scholarship.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $65.00/1 hour or $32.50/half hour for in home lessons. Lessons are bought in 1 month packages of four lessons at the beginning of the month. I offer referal discounts as well for my students.
How did you get started teaching?
I started learning guitar and ukulele at the age of four from my father, and my mother is a law professor and ballroom dancing teacher so it was natural for me to start teaching.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages from 4 to 94. I teach all levels from beginner to advancing professionals. I have helped students prepare for college auditions and helped adults who just want to learn a little and get a distraction from work.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Get a clear idea of what you want out of your experience with music and your instrument. Also, try to understand what it might take to reach your goals musically.
