About
As a Music Educator with 15 years of experience, Tai Shan has won for her supportive approach to teaching music and songwriting and has developed a large and respected private studio. She has helped students achieve their goals by designing a curriculum that takes them from beginning guitar to on-stage performance. As former student Briana Marela (K Records) stated, “Tai gave me the courage to go out and perform.” To date, Tai's students have toured the U.S, signed Record Label deals, performed on stages across the country, Released over 20 Cd's, won Songwriter of the Year and John Lennon Songwriting Competition.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
What Will My First Lesson Contain?
During our first lesson, I will ask you about your goals. Do you want to lead your friends and family in song around the next campfire, rock your next open mic, do you want to record your next EP, or learn how to tour? All of this is possible with a specialized approach to lessons.
I create your lessons catered to your musical skills, background and musical background Tell me about your musical goals and challenges by filling out this evaluation form. Then I can create your lesson strategy and put together your first personalized guitar lesson for you.
Will I Receive Guitar Lessons Specifically Designed For Me?
Yes, of course. Here is how I design your lessons:
We talk about your goals, your musical background, skill level, challenges, strengths, and weaknesses. I create your lesson plan to help you reach your guitar playing goals as fast as possible. You and I work together to help you practice your lessons and track your progress along the way. The longer we work together, the more I get to know you and your guitar playing and the better I can refine your lesson strategy over time. You will have access to a dropbox folder where all of your files of music and pdf’s are kept. So no more losing your homework. It is always available for you to access.

How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching and building my private practice in 2004 while in my senior year of college. By the time I had graduated my practice grew word of mouth to 20 students.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with ages 6-up my students have gone from learning a instrument and singing to performing frequently, recording their own albums, competing and winning songwriting competitions such as the John Lennon Songwriting Competition and winning Songwriter of the Year from IMCA.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you start with the end in mind. I will ask you what is your end goal and every week we will touch base on them to make sure we are getting closer to your ultimate goal. So whether you want to get better around the campfire or be on The VOICE we will work on helping you achieve your dreams.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Ask yourself what kind of music makes you happy and make a list of favorite songs you would like to learn so you can follow your passion while learning your instrument or voice.
