About
I am a Berklee College of Music graduate with over 20 years over teaching experience. I have taught all ages, from young music beginners to older students looking to learn a new hobby after retirement. I have also taught students who have gone on to attend college and university music programs and work as professional musicians.
Teaching is a great passion and art for me. Though I have performed a great deal as well, I will always be a teacher. I love working with kids and am very comfortable structuring lesson and practice time. For more advanced students - I do teach theory, songwriting, ear training and am well verse in different guitar techniques and how to cross over various technical hurdles to the instrument. For piano lessons I focus on beginner to intermediate students. Voice lessons are also available.
So wherever you are in your musical journey, Gorman Music will be a great place for you to learn and grow. I have a home teaching studio but also travel out to students within about 15 minutes of the Nashville area. Contact me with any further questions about scheduling, payment policy or anything specific to your learning needs.
Thanks!
Jon Gorman

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by finding out what a students starting point is with music as well as the goals they have in mind - or those which are best suited to help move that student forward. Often times with children or first time music students they will need to have some simple short term goals (learning familar songs, keeping rhythm and learning notes and chords well). From there I like to provide students with a basic structure up front to come into their first lesson with. This could be a basic instructional book with a music staff notebook for assignments, a list of songs they already have in ind to be able to play, technical hurdles they face as potential or currrent working performers, or a core of music knowldge they hope to attain (theory, composition, ear training, a core introduction to the training methods of a program they hope to enter e.g. Berklee, Belmont). I also have particular series which I have used for these upper level types of lessons to stucture learning and make this accessible to students wanting to venture a bit into new areas of music.
