About

Music is my passion. And I know how busy people can be, so I travel to your location. My teaching philosophy is "better to teach students how to fish than give them one". Many teachers will take your money to "teach you a song". I do teach songs that apply a particular technique or techniques we learn first. I also teach the music theory behind that particular technique.

I'm an instructional designer, so I know that having a plan is the most important part of a lesson. I also know how important it is to find the student's mode of learning, and to help motivate them. I started playing guitar when I was 14 years old and took every music class available in HS, so I know how important it is to teach the basics first.

Richard has been teaching my daughter for 3 years. He is an amazing teacher and actually teaches music not just memorizing the songs. He teaches students to read and understand the sheet music. It is a comprehensive guitar lesson where you will be able to play anything. Highly recommend him.

    Frequently asked questions

I usually start my students with the basics on an acoustic guitar. My approach is that I'd rather teach you how to fish than give you a fish; however, we will strive to have students who have never played guitar before playing a song within 10 weeks of weekly lessons.

I was in training and technical support for most of my working life, beginning in the US Army, as a Microsoft Certified Trainer, and as an Airport Safety Instructor for the TSA. I have a BA in Psychology and a Masters in Instructional Design.
